Cross-Cultural visualisation: This project was an exploration in mapping visual elements from three different cultures, namely oriental, occidental and Indian into visualisation of stories.
The following shows my Design Process.

My research takes place across three continents. Mainly Germany, India and singapore. This provided me to explore three completely different cultures.
This brought me to my initial problem statemen t- How can i bring something new to each country? Keeping this in mind, i went back to the map and saw how i can fill in the gaps. Germany being modern and industrialised has managed to still be extremely traditional in terms of language and storytelling. Singapore also modern, has lost its culture quite a bit. India is still growing and has a mix of everything.
So now i came to my final problem statement - 'How can I take attributes from a chosen culture and blend it with another without taking away anything from their respective traditional context?'
Since the problem in this case encompasses three different cultures of choice, namely the oriental, the occidental and Indian (which is my own) the challenge was to explore how to layer the Indian with the occidental, the occidental with the oriental, the oriental with back with the Indian context. This project is about blending these cultures without taking away their respective uniqueness. |
